Cliff Bunch was found hiding in a wardrobe

Police found a burglar hiding in a wardrobe when they arrested him following a break-in at a home.

Cliff Bunch sneaked his way inside a house in Newark around 12.30pm on 10 October 2024 and helped himself to a bracelet and ring.

He then took the distinctive jewellery to a pawn brokers in the town and traded the items in.

When the victim became aware, police were called and detectives began an investigation.

By analysing CCTV footage they were able to identify Bunch as the offender.

Officers then attended an address in Newark to arrest Bunch and found the 29-year-old hiding in a wardrobe in an upstairs bedroom.

Bunch, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for a total of two years and four months at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (30 January).

Detective Constable Neil Jackson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Detectives worked hard on the investigation and I hope the victim welcomes this outcome in court.

“Bunch opportunistically broke into the property and took these sentimental items. Thankfully, they were recovered and have now been returned to their rightful owner.

“We know burglary is an invasive crime which can have a lasting impact on those affected.

“That is why the force has teams of detectives investigating break-ins with all the tools at our disposal, while supporting those people who become victims.

“I would urge residents to make every effort to ensure their home is as secure as it possibly can be to stay one step ahead of burglars.”
