Nottinghamshire Police is backing a groundbreaking 'Fight Back Against Retail Crime' security event which is coming to Nottingham for the first time later this month.
The innovative collaborative event, which is taking place in Nottingham’s Victoria Centre, will unite local retailers, police, business improvement districts (BIDs), and security providers to help combat crime together.
Attendees will hear from expert speakers on combatting retail crime and explore security measures from fog generators and CCTV to noise deterrence and DNA marking.
Participants will be able to gain a deeper understanding of local security challenges, identify key contacts for addressing issues, and learn more about practical ways to fight back effectively.
They will also hear from Nottinghamshire Police Chief Superintendent Nick Waldram, responsible for local policing, on how the force is disrupting and pursuing offenders.
Crime prevention officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Prevention Hub, as well as neighbourhood policing officers, will also be attending to offer support and advice.
A recently published Crime Survey Report by the British Retail Consortium commended Nottinghamshire Police as one of three forces providing the most effective response to retail crime.
Chief Supt Waldram said: “We’re delighted to support this collaborative Fight Back Against Retail Crime event which is all about bringing people together in partnership to create safer and more secure environments for retailers and their customers.
“As a force we remain absolutely committed to doing whatever we can to prevent and eradicate retail crime.
"This includes a combination of our proactive prevention and intervention work and robust enforcement, dealing with any reports we receive in an effective and efficient manner and maximising every opportunity to bring offenders to justice.
“It’s vital that we continue to work alongside our partners and listen to local businesses, so that we can take action to stop retailers being targeted and divert people away from this type of offending.”
The Fight Back Against Retail Crime event is taking place on Thursday 27 February, 10am to 3pm, in the upper mall clock tower area of the Victoria Centre, next to Starbucks.
There will be two free sessions running on the day, from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm, to allow as many retail businesses as possible to access the event.
The event is being hosted by the security product manufacturer and innovator Smoke Screen.
Any retail businesses who would like to attend the event can click on the below link to fill in a form and submit their details.
