Taufeeq Ahmed has been jailed

A dangerous hit-and-run driver who knocked over and killed a man has been jailed.

Taufeeq Ahmed was seen in his silver BMW speeding through the streets of Nottingham on 6 November 2024.

At around 10.50pm the BMW collided with 23-year-old Cain Parker as it overtook another vehicle on Hucknall Road, Carrington.

Ahmed’s car was on the wrong side of the road when it struck Mr Parker, who was wearing a high-visibility jacket.

Mr Parker, also known as Kenny Fitzpatrick, left behind a loving family and his newborn baby girl.

Ahmed, aged 23, previously of Bestwood, sped away from the scene and attempted to cover his tracks by discarding items which linked him to the car.

His BMW was discovered in a private car park off Pavior Road.

Ahmed was located walking in the area, looking nervous and was arrested.

A police dog and his handler then recovered the car key, Ahmed’s driving  licence and a pot of cannabis from behind a bin and in a bush.

The drivers of two other vehicles were also arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and remain on bail pending further enquiries.

Ahmed, who has previously been jailed for dangerous driving, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drugs, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.

He also admitted a fraud offence after failing to disclose his previous driving convictions.

Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday (21 February) Ahmed was jailed for 10 years.

He was disqualified from driving for 10 years.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“Ahmed’s dangerous display of driving has taken the life of a young man from his family and friends.

“The impact of Ahmed’s selfish and reckless behaviour on Mr Parker’s family has been truly devastating and our thoughts are with his loved ones following this outcome in court.

“I am pleased the judge agreed with us that Ahmed is a danger to other road users.

“He already had an appalling record of driving dangerously and recklessly, which included a previous conviction for dangerous driving.

“Despite this he chose to recklessly drive through a residential area at high speed, putting other road users at serious risk whilst under the influence of drugs.

“No sentence can make up for the harm and suffering Ahmed has caused through his actions that night, but I hope all those affected can find some degree of closure now he has been put behind bars.

“I also hope this sad case acts as a reminder to other motorists of just how devastating it can be if you choose to disobey the rules of the road and drive in a dangerous manner.”
