The moment a thief set off a security alarm before fleeing with two stolen handbags
Police have arrested a suspect after two designer handbags were stolen from a Nottingham shop.
CCTV shows a woman enter Flannels, in Lister Gate, before placing a Gucci handbag, priced at £2,170, into a larger handbag that she came in with.
She then did the same with a Christian Louboutin handbag worth £1,365 before leaving the store without paying.
The thefts triggered the store alarm and a staff member managed to retrieve one of the handbags after chasing after the shoplifter.
The incident happened at approximately 1pm on Monday 10 February.
Officers reviewed CCTV footage and a suspect was subsequently identified.
A 42-year-old was arrested on suspicion of theft after being located by officers earlier today (17 February).
She remains in custody for questioning.
Sergeant Chris Johnson, of the City Centre neighbourhood policing team, said:
“Shoplifting isn’t a victimless crime. These offences hurt businesses, affect people’s livelihoods, and can ultimately result in shoppers having to pay more for items as prices go up as a result.
“We will continue to work with local retailers to identify shoplifters and take appropriate enforcement action against them.”
