Two suspects have been charged after a mix of plain-clothed and uniformed officers seized two weapons.
The force’s knife crime team discovered a zombie knife and a machete while utilising the policing technique on one of their patrols.
Officers from the specialist team were out in Hyson Green on Gregory Boulevard when they noticed some suspicious behaviour.
This happened around 3.40pm on Wednesday (12 February), with plain-clothed police making the spot and uniformed members of the team then chasing down two suspects.
Both a zombie knife and a machete were at that point discovered and seized following searches by knife crime team officers.
Two boys, aged 16 and 17, were later both charged with possessing a bladed article in public.
The 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody after appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (13 February).
He will reappear before the same court on 26 February.
The 16-year-old, meanwhile, who again can’t be named for legal reasons, has been released on bail, ahead of an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 5 March.
Sergeant Matt Daley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Discoveries like this one are exactly why we as a knife crime team conduct the patrols we do across Nottingham each day.
“Sending officers out in plain clothes is just one of the techniques we commonly use on our patrols, so it’s pleasing to see this approach help us remove these two dangerous weapons from our streets.
“As well as taking this zombie knife and machete out of harm’s way, we were also able to make two arrests, which have subsequently led to both suspects being charged, so this was a good result for us.”
