New Year’s Day raid shuts down cannabis factory

Police uncovered a cannabis grow and have charged a suspect following a New Year’s Day raid on a home.

Officers executed a warrant at the semi-detached property in Birchwood Road, Wollaton, Nottingham, around 9.30am on 1 January 2025.

A total of 28 plants with a substantial yield were found growing in upstairs bedrooms.

Forty-year-old Maciej Dzieszko, of Birchwood Road, has been charged with cultivating a Class B drug.

He has further been charged with a Fraud Act offence after suspected fraudulent documents were found inside the address.

Dzieszko appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (2 January) and was remanded in custody until his next appearance on 23 January 2025.

Police Constable Emma Bailey, of the City West neighbourhood policing team, said:

“Putting a cannabis grow out of use is always good news so this was a very positive start to the New Year for our team.

“Grows of this nature can act as a magnet for other criminality and create a potential fire hazard for neighbouring families, so it is pleasing to be able to dismantle the grow and secure these charges.”
