One suspect was placed in handcuffs within minutes of a burglary report coming in – with a second arrested soon after.
Response officers rushed to a Nottingham city centre address, after hearing two people were on a roof and had been trying window and door handles.
As police arrived in Friar Lane, around 4.20am on Wednesday (29 January), they spotted someone loitering on a bicycle at the back of the property.
Believing they could be involved in the incident they’d initially been called about, officers arrested the 42-year-old man on suspicion of attempted burglary.
At that point, they’d also become suspicious about the pushbike he was sitting on, so arrested the same man on suspicion of theft of a pedal cycle too.
While this was taking place, other members of the policing team were conducting searches of the surrounding area.
A 43-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary.
Detective Sergeant Simon Carter, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“This was a great example of our officers responding to information as it came in to achieve a satisfactory result.
“By doing the right thing and reporting this offence as soon as they spotted it, that member of the public ensured we were able to get there quickly and apprehend a suspect.
“Further information then helped us identify and place a second suspect in handcuffs around an hour later, so it was great to see the public work with us in this fashion.
“As this incident showed, we will take immediate action should we be told about an offence, so our plea would be for others to follow this example and report a crime to the police immediately by calling 101.”
