Problem property closed in Hyson Green

Police have responded to residents’ concerns by securing a closure order on a property linked to drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

The property, in Hovenden Gardens, Hyson Green, has been the subject of multiple complaints over the last year and had become a magnet for local disorder.

Residents in the area described noise disturbances, intimidating behaviour and open drug use, with discarded drug paraphernalia left in public spaces and on private properties.

Additional complaints included violent altercations that severely disrupted daily life and left many residents feeling unsafe.

The property’s occupant had previously been issued written warnings regarding her behaviour, but these were ignored. With the situation escalating, Nottingham City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Service, in collaboration with Nottinghamshire Police, deemed a Closure Order necessary to protect the wellbeing of the community.

The authorities have now secured a closure order on the address after making a successful application to Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.

The order, granted on Friday 10 January, prevents anyone from entering the property for a period of three months.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman linked to the property was due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 7 January charged with possession of Class A drugs. She failed to appear but has since been detained after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

PC Brendan Farrell, of the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said:

“We have been monitoring this property over the last year and in that time have received multiple complaints about drug-related crime.

“Over a period of months it became a magnet for crime and disorder and was causing considerable upset to residents.

“In addition to the robust action we have already taken, we have now secured a closure order on this property which will further protect neighbouring residents.

“This is the second closure order we have carried out in Hyson Green in the last few months and will continue to do so as we work to tackle drug related crime and disorder in the City Central area.”

“Closure Orders are significant powers that we do not use lightly.

“While we recognise that the perpetrators in this case are vulnerable individuals struggling with drug use, the safety and wellbeing of the wider community must take priority.

“We are committed to addressing serious anti-social behaviour to ensure our citizens feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods.

“The Closure Order demonstrates Nottingham City Council’s and Nottinghamshire Police’s commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour and safeguarding communities.”
