A suspected shoplifter was chased down and arrested after 15 bottles of shampoo were taken from supermarket shelves.
Officers were on patrol in West Bridgford when they were called to the Wilford Lane retail park at 9.24am on Saturday 4 January after a man attempted to leave the store.
He was briefly detained by staff before getting free and running from the scene.
A suspect was pursued and tracked down by officers a short time later in Main Street.
Victor Dimitru, aged 20, has been charged with five counts of theft.
The other four charges relate to incidents at other stores on 24 December, 15 December, 4 December and 28 November.
Dimitru, of Briarwood Avenue, Nottingham, has been granted conditional bail and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 14 February.
PC Paul Pugsley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Shop thefts have a considerable impact on local retailers and the staff who work there. These businesses are a vital part of our community and we will always respond quickly to protect them from this type of crime.”
