A teenage knife carrier who chased a man down the street and stabbed him multiple times has been put behind bars.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, launched a savage attack on the victim, who was known to him, in St Ann’s, Nottingham, on 24 November 2024.

Police were called around 11pm when a member of the public reported a man had been stabbed in Egerton Walk.

The caller said the victim was injured and being chased by an attacker towards St Ann’s Way.

A further call was received a short time later that a man was seriously injured at a multiple occupancy property in Alfred Street North.

Officers found the victim and carried out first aid before paramedics took him to hospital.

The man, aged in his 30s, suffered injuries to his arms, hands and head, including a 15cm cut to his forearm. Doctors believe he lost around one litre of blood during the attack.

Detectives quickly identified the 16-year-old as a suspect after conducting a trawl of CCTV footage and house-to-house inquiries.

CCTV showed he had attacked the man before chasing him down St Ann’s Way.

He then confronted him again in Alfred Steet North, striking the victim a number of times with the large knife.

The teen fled the scene when the man managed to grab the weapon from him. The victim then stumbled into the multi-occupancy property.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (17 June) the youth was handed an extended sentence of nine years and nine months, including three years due to being considered a dangerous offender, which he will serve in a young offenders' institution.

He denied attempted murder but pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place at an earlier hearing.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was an isolated incident with the attacker and the victim known to each other.

“This does not, however, diminish in any way how frightening it must have been for the victim to be pursued and attacked with a knife.

“We also understand how unpleasant it must have been to witness this violent and sustained attack.

“The victim suffered extensive bleeding from some nasty wounds to his head, arms and hands, and this incident highlights once again the devastating impact knives can have.

“The decision to take a knife out onto the street is one which puts both the knife carrier and anyone they come into contact with at risk of harm.”
