Suspect appears in court after pub fire

Detectives investigating a fire at a pub have charged a man with arson.

Police initially attended reports of a fight between a group of people at The Whitemoor, in Nuthall Road, Nottingham, around 1.40am on Saturday (1 March).

Emergency services were later called to the pub again following reports of a fire around 4am.

A man was rescued from an upstairs bedroom by firefighters and a joint police and fire investigation has taken place over the weekend.

Liam Noon, aged 32, of Costock Avenue, Nottingham, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, criminal damage and affray.

He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (3 March) and was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 31 March.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Thankfully no one was seriously injured in this fire due to a rapid and efficient response by the emergency services.

“Arson is an extremely serious offence and can have devastating consequences, so I’m pleased our investigations have led to a suspect being charged and placed before magistrates at the earliest opportunity.”
