Operation Perth is Nottinghamshire Police's ongoing investigation into deaths and serious injuries related to maternity care at Nottingham City Hospital and Nottingham Queen’s Medical Centre, which are both part of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This investigation is closely aligned to Donna Ockenden's independent review of maternity services within the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Rob Griffin introduces Operation Perth.
Hello and welcome to our Operation Perth web page. My name's Rob Griffin, I'm Temporary Deputy Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police and I'm also the Gold Commander for this investigation.
Operation Perth is our investigation into concerns that have been raised about severe harm and deaths linked to maternity care provision at the Nottingham University Hospitals Trust. As Gold Commander, I have and will maintain strategic oversight of the investigation.
I have set its scope and its scale, and I have ensured that Nottinghamshire Police has adequate resources to deliver this. I also have overall responsibility to ensure that we conduct an appropriate, comprehensive and professional investigation.
The investigation is running in parallel with Donna Ockenden's review, and we receive information from that review in the form of family folders and we review each of those so as to ascertain if on the balance of probabilities, a crime has been committed or not.
We're expecting to receive around 2,500 family folders in total, and each will be meticulously assessed by a team of skilled and professional investigators before our team will then go on to provide updates to affected families.
Affected families are at the heart of our investigation and our approach throughout this operation is underpinned by compassion, care and candour toward all those affected.
Due to the scale of the investigation and its complexity, I expect that it will take a considerable length of time for us to complete the criminal investigation. However, I am committed to ensuring that there are meaningful updates as our investigation progresses, and that's the reason that we've created this web page, which will provide those updates.
We will be open and transparent about our progress whilst ensuring that the integrity investigation is protected for families involved and also the wider community.
Comprehensive details around support, on how to contact the Perth team, are also available here, so please do reach out to us if you have information or would wish to speak to us at any time.
Thank you.
