Since our start we have been interested in working with and supporting Nottingham's LGBT+ community. This has been, not least, through our work in the city, including the many initiatives and projects such as the annual Pride festival, and having regular meetings and close contact with the community, as well as visiting venues, colleges and events to ensure we are giving everyone the best level of support that we can.
West Nottinghamshire College Group has produced videos on LGBT+ Role Models. Staff and officials across our own forces, local government, the NHS, emergency services and education tell their personal stories in a series of powerful films designed to encourage lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) colleagues to feel comfortable, and proud, to be out at work.
In this film, Sarah Stephenson, Disability Adviser for the University of Nottingham, shares her experience of coming out in the workplace.
The films have been produced by students at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, spearheaded by the Nottinghamshire Diversity Champions Partnership. The partnership includes organisations that have featured in Stonewall’s list of top 100 employers in the UK for promoting LGBT+ equality. Staff were filmed at our own headquarters, Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Homes, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service, University of Nottingham and Vision West Nottinghamshire College. The films were produced by BTEC Level 3 Media Production (Film and television) students Emilie Wright, Matthew Hart and Saul Turner, operating as the New Revolution production team.
