This review acknowledges and celebrates the strong partnership between Nottinghamshire Police and Mansfield District Council throughout 2024.
The past year has witnessed a strong collaborative effort, marked by effective communication, shared intelligence, and joint initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety and improving the quality of life for our residents.
We are proud of the significant achievements realised through this partnership, including the continued growth of Operation Springboard, the close work to reduce the impact on the most vulnerable communities and the strong reduction in crime rates across the whole of Mansfield.
Building upon this foundation of success, we are committed to further strengthening our partnership in 2025.
Operation Amberstag is a multi-agency operation aimed at targeting several local priorities; shop theft, drug use and dealing, vehicle ASB, homelessness, problem premises and street-based offences across Mansfield town centre.
This operation is conducted in partnership with Mansfield District Council ASB Officers, Neighbourhood Wardens, the Mansfield BID and local store security.
The operation is conducted at least once a month over two days, one during the day and one during the afternoon. This shift is to allow the operation to target different issues across the day.
A local partnership briefing is held at Mansfield BID offices at the start of the day of action.
During a recent Operation Amberstag we saw:
One individual was arrested for three shop thefts from Mansfield and Worksop and was charged to court;
One individual was arrested for criminal damage to a police vehicle and was charged to court;
Two individuals were arrested for shop theft from Boots in Mansfield, one of which was later charged to court;
One individual was arrested for four shop thefts from Mansfield and Ashfield and was charged to court;
One individual was arrested for assault and was issued with a Community Resolution;
Five individuals were issued with a dispersal notice to leave Mansfield town centre for 48 hours for begging and antisocial behaviour;
One individual was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice for failing to disperse;
Two individuals were stop & searched on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs;
One individual was issued with a Community Protection Warning to combat their persistent antisocial behaviour and street drinking;
One individual was served with paperwork to attend an Antisocial Behaviour Injunction hearing;
One vulnerable victim was identified and supported into a refuge for domestic violence;
One vulnerable elderly missing person was located safe and well.
Police and partners also handed out leaflets with information about the Public Space Protection Order which covers the town centre, specifically the prohibition on cycling between 10am and 6pm daily.
Visits were also made to several premises where fly-tipping was identified as a persistent issue.
Over the last twelve months the police, in conjunction with Mansfield District Council, have gathered themselves a good reputation for having a robust model around properties being used in criminality.
Closure orders have allowed the council and police to target problematic addresses and people to put an immediate stop to the negative behaviour.
The results from this work have been fantastic and residents have made numerous comments about how good the work has been and how their faith has been restored in the police and local authority.
In the last 12 months the partnership has closed eight properties linked to criminality and removed the problem tenants from the area.
Warning to problem tenants after triple property closure – Mansfield District Council
We have worked closely across the partnership this year on the Immediate Justice Scheme.
Launched this year to tackle ASB, we have already seen some great work and several referrals to the scheme.
Mansfield has the highest number of referrals to the scheme outside of the city area.
Over the course of the last 12 months the police have worked closely with Mansfield District Council and wider partners to help deliver a number of community events.
These events have helped bring communities closer together and continue to show Mansfield as a place to live and work safely.
Christmas lights switch on;
Party on the market event;
Stags promotion parade;
Mansfield Carnival;
Stagsfest;
Mansfield 10k.
The partnership work has resulted in some excellent results for the local community.
