Do I have to pay anything to join?

No, there is no induction or weekly subscription fee.

Will I get a uniform?

Yes, our Junior and Senior Cadets are provided with a uniform. It will be your responsibility to look after it. The only item we ask you to provide yourselves are black boots/shoes.

When can I apply?

You can only apply when the recruitment window is open. Recruitment will be publicised on our website and social media sites, so please check these regularly. To join our Senior Cadet programme you must be in year 11/aged 16. To join our Junior Cadet programme you must be aged between 13 and 15.

Will I gain any qualifications?

Yes, our Senior Cadets have the opportunity to gain a Foundation in Policing qualification with the University of Derby as part of the programme. This involves a number of weekend sessions and a summer school.

Can I become a paid member of staff after Cadets?

Being a Cadet does not guarantee you a job in the police, however it will give you invaluable experience. We will support you in applying to become a Special Constable, PCSO and/or PC towards the end of your programme if you decide that is the career path for you.

Will I be expected to volunteer in my community?

Yes, Cadets are expected to volunteer four hours a month to take part in community based events and activities, ranging from crime prevention events to sporting activities.

Do I need any qualifications to apply?

No, we welcome people of all abilities.
