Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) eligibility requirements
You must be 18 or over at the time of applying.
You must be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom. Foreign nationals and UK citizens who have lived abroad may have to wait some time for security and vetting clearance. All applicants have to be vetted to the same standard before appointment.
A number of crimes will mean a definite or likely rejection of your application, including anyone who has received a formal caution in the last five years, committed a violent crime or public order offence.
Applicants should declare any tattoos on the tattoo declaration form and submit colour photographs of all tattoos with the application.
Applicants should be aware that they should not have any tattoos that could cause offence. In summary tattoos are not acceptable if they:
- undermine the dignity of Nottinghamshire Police
- are garish or numerous or particularly prominent, for example, on the hands, neck, face or forearms
- could cause offence to members of the public or colleagues and/or invite provocation - this would include tattoos that are rude, lewd, crude, racist, sexist, sectarian, homophobic, violent or intimidating
- display unacceptable attitudes towards women, minority groups or any other section of the community, or alignment with particular groups, which could cause offence to members of the community.
We will check applicants' financial status. If you have outstanding County Court Judgments (CCJs) or been registered bankrupt with outstanding debts, you will be rejected. If you have discharged bankruptcy debts, you will need to provide a Certificate of Satisfaction with your application.
Health and fitness
You must be physically and mentally able to undertake police duties. You will need to complete a medical history questionnaire and have an eyesight test before your appointment can be confirmed.
You can only apply to one force at a time. This applies to forces who require candidates to undertake the College of Policing PCSO Recruit Assessment Centre. Your application will not be accepted if you have previously applied unsuccessfully, in the last six months, to any Police force in England & Wales that requires candidates to undertake the Police SEARCH Recruitment Assessment Centre or the College of Policing PCSO Recruit Assessment Centre.
We accept typed applications, including the competency based questions section (no additional sheets will be accepted for this section).
If at any point in the recruitment process your personal details change we ask you to inform us by email to firstname.lastname@example.org at the earliest opportunity.
Incomplete applications will not be processed, ensure all necessary information is provided.
