Woman jailed for repeatedly breaching her restraining order against her former partner

A woman has been given a prison sentence for breaching a restraining order against her ex-partner on multiple occasions.

Lisa Turner, aged 45, of Wilmington Gardens, Nottingham, was given a restraining order by Nottingham Magistrates Court on 17 June 2022 which has since extended by a year to 18 June 2024.

The order rules that Turner should not have contact, of any form, with the victim and should not visit their address.

The order is designed to protect victims from further contact and harassment and can only be issued alongside criminal proceedings.

Turner has previously breached the restraining order five times before this occasion between October 2022 and September 2023.

Officers attended the address of her partner as a routine visit on 20 May but instead found Turner hiding under the bed in her partner’s bedroom which was a direct breach of her restraining order.

Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (22 May), Turner pleaded guilty to the charges and was jailed for a total of 16 weeks.

The offences were deemed so serious that only a prison sentence would suffice due to Turner’s multiple past breaches of the order.

This arrest forms part of Operation Saltash, an initiative run by Nottinghamshire Police to disrupt the offending of repeat perpetrators of domestic abuse and/or stalking.

It involves completing regular visits with survivors of domestic abuse or stalking and identifying where the perpetrator may have breached the order against them.

Officers will also complete random visits against those with a civil order to make sure they are adhering to its conditions.

They will then make arrests if they need to and manage proceedings against this person if a breach has happened.

Detective Inspector Abi Goucher, Nottingham Police’s safeguarding lead said:

“This is the sixth time that Turner has been arrested for breaching her restraining order.

“No one should have to live in fear of their abuser potentially intimidating or harassing them and this sentence shows that we will not hesitate to issue these orders where necessary and will prosecute anyone who chooses to breach them.

“This arrest shows that the safeguarding and care of victims, who can be male or female, is an absolute priority for us as a force.

“This person’s victim has now been successfully safeguarded through our work and they can be rest assured that whilst the perpetrator is in prison, they will be free from the emotional and physical torment that being a victim of this crime brings.”
