Sex offender given further jail time for hotel assault

A man already serving a jail sentence for sexually abusing a child will spend even more time in prison after being convicted of additional offences.

Alex Sly, aged 25, was given an extended seven-and-a-half year sentence in January this year for sexual activity with a child.

That offence took place elsewhere in the country in mid 2024 - a little under a year after Sly sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel near Mansfield.

His victim, who approached Nottinghamshire Police in February 2024 to report what had happened, was sleeping in the same bed when she woke to find Sly assaulting her.

After being challenged about his behaviour, Sly apologised and later messaged his victim to call what happened his 'gravest mistake.' 

Sly, who was also convicted in 2022 of possessing indecent images of children, denied any wrongdoing during this police interview.

Even after his conviction and imprisonment for the later offence, he continued to maintain his innocence until the day his trial was due to start. 

On Wednesday 17 September his finally entered guilty pleas to charges of sexual assault and assault by penetration.

Sly, of HMP Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and was jailed for three-and-a-half years  to be served consecutively with his current sentence.

He was also handed a restraining order banning him from any future contact with his victim. 

Detective Constable Henry Foster, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

"Sly is a repeat offender who committed another extremely serious sexual offence while still protesting his innocence for the offence we were investigating.

"He very clearly poses a danger to young women and will now spend even more time in jail as a result - an outcome I hope will provide some comfort for his victims."
