Members of the public in Nottinghamshire will have the chance to receive expert crime prevention advice this spring as a new series of police events hits the road.
Nottinghamshire Police’s ‘Crime Prevention Roadshow’ will see the force’s crime prevention specialists travel across the county to raise awareness of steps people can take to help keep themselves safe and protect their home.
The first event attracted more than 100 people throughout the day when it launched on Tuesday (March 31) at the Four Seasons Shopping Centre in Mansfield.
Visitors, including families and elderly community members, had the opportunity to ask about security measures within their home and discuss how to keep themselves safe.
A further seven events will be taking place in locations across Nottinghamshire throughout April.
A key focus of the events is to encourage people to report incidents to the police, allowing officers to respond appropriately, and to increase registrations for the community messaging platform Notts Alerts and the stolen property register, Immobilise.
There will also be an opportunity to get your bicycle security marked for free through the bike registering service.
Crime prevention officers work across the city and county, engaging with homeowners, businesses, and other victims of crime to provide expert advice on a case-by-case basis.

They can provide risk assessments to identify vulnerable properties and suggest security measures to residents, to reduce repeat victims of crime and deter offenders.
Recommendations can include improving lighting, CCTV, and perimeter fencing in an area to make it harder for criminals to operate.
Following an assessment, the officers can suggest and provide burglary prevention equipment such as window restrictors, vibration alarms, fence defender strips, and signage free of charge.
Installing appropriate lighting, perimeter fencing, and robust, close-shackle padlocks as effective methods to deter intruders should also be considered.
The Crime Prevention Roadshow will continue at the following locations between 11am and 2pm. Further dates will be confirmed nearer the summer.
Crime prevention officer Yvonne Pickersgill, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are acutely aware of the impact that being a victim of crime can have on someone, which is why we also work to prevent crime from happening in the first place.
“As part of these events, we are advising the public on practical steps they can take to help ensure they feel safe and that their property is secure.
“This can range from making sure homes are well-lit and using timer switches where appropriate, to securing vehicles and outbuildings, and marking valuable belongings.
“We’re demonstrating a range of items, including personal attack alarms, and can recommend ‘Secured by Design’ accredited products, which is the official police security initiative that works to improve the security of buildings and their surroundings.
“As part of our roles, we routinely visit victims of crime and work closely with neighbourhood officers to identify issues and help people feel safer.
“I’m really pleased to say that the launch of this event was well attended and has been a great start.
“I’d welcome anyone with any burning questions or concerns to please come and visit us at upcoming events or drop us an e-mail on [email protected].”
