Two men found themselves in custody after officers were called to reports of a fight near Old Market Square.
Officers were alerted to the incident on Tuesday 16 June just after 11.30pm in Kings Street involving a group of young people.
Rafael McLeon, aged 25, of Park Road, Calverton, was arrested and charged with using threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke fear of violence and possession of a Class B drug (cannabis).
Fardeen Qadari, aged 27, of Webster Avenue, Eastwood, was also arrested and charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke fear of violence.
This is part of Operation Reclaim, a partnership approach to tackling the major issues affecting the city centre including drugs and anti-social behaviour.
City commander Superintendent Chris Pearson said:
"Our Op Reclaim officers are out in force across the city centre ensuring that incidents like this are dealt with quickly and robustly.
"We now have a number of dedicated officers on foot in Old Market Square, who will be feeding information back to our neighbourhood policing teams and the council's community protection officers.
"This incident saw two men quickly arrested and then charged.
"Hopefully this sends out a clear message to the public that we will do everything in our power to make sure the city streets are safe from criminality and associated anti-social behaviour."
