Sexual Offences - crime prevention advice and evidence preservation

Sexual Offences

Being a survivor of sexual abuse is an upsetting and traumatic experience,
Nottinghamshire Police take all reports of sexual abuse seriously and your report will be dealt with sensitively.

What happens next?

A Police Officer will attend whatever location you choose and where you feel most comfortable, you may come to a Police station if you prefer. The officer will ask you what has happened and will ask for your consent to record your account on their body worn video. For some sexual offences, a specially trained officer will visit you and deal with your report.

Evidence Preservation

  • The officer may ask to collect a sample of urine to check for forensic evidence
  • If the offence took place within the last 7-10 days the officer will discuss a medical examination with you, where a medical professional will obtain samples from you for forensic analysis
  • Please seek advice from the Police before washing any areas if you are able to do so
  • The Officer may ask you for your clothing

There are some steps you can take, including:

  • Remember that sexual abuse is a crime. It is not your fault
  • Report it, to help yourself and others
  • You don’t need physical injuries to be a victim
  • If you have concerns about being spiked, report it and seek medical attention as soon as possible
