Hello, my name is Luke Cano-Flatt, and I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for Nottinghamshire Police.
Assaults and robberies can be fairly nasty jobs.
However, victims of assault can help assist the investigation process in a number of ways.
Firstly, if you can provide the officer with as much detail as to where the incident happened, what was used during the assault, whether this be a fist or a weapon, and if you had any direct contact with the suspect, this will help us narrow down a potential scene and what type of crime has been committed.
If a suspect has prolonged contact with you, whether this be holding you down, grabbing, punching or even scratching you, please, let the officers know in the first instance as we may be able to target these areas for forensic opportunities.
Finally, if you have any injuries sustained during the offense, you can request a CSI to attend to take photographs of your injuries to document these for the courts.
If they get worse during the healing process, we can re-attend if necessary to re-photograph these.
