Hello, my name is Luke Cano-Flatt, and I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for Nottinghamshire Police.
Being a victim of a burglary can be a tough and distressing time, and we're here to help you through this process.
As a CSI, there are a few things that you can do to help us maximize the forensic evidence that we can gather.
Firstly, the point of entry, whether it be a broken door or an open window, try to minimize touching this area as much as possible.
This is where we can get the best evidence and the best opportunity for fingerprints, DNA and footwear.
If you do need to get this secured or boarded for any reason, please, whoever is touching this, put on a pair of gloves to prevent adding any more fingerprints.
If the window or door needs boarding, get the fitter to wear a pair of gloves and to board the window from the outside.
If the door or window is removed, just place this inside for us, somewhere dry and accessible.
Try not to handle any smooth or shiny surfaces in the address that you think any offenders have touched, as we may be able to get fingerprints from these too.
