Hello, my name is Luke Cano-Flatt and I'm a Crime Scene Investigator for Nottinghamshire Police.
I just want to highlight some important burglary prevention advice that will see your home safer and more secured.
Firstly, remember to close and lock your windows and doors while you're out or not doing anything in a particular room.
Burglars are likely to target premises with easy access inside and will take the least path of resistance to commit crime.
Keep valuables out of sight, and consider leaving a light on when you go out or when you go to bed at night. Outdoor floodlights are great for burglary prevention.
Consider fitting anti-snap and anti-bump locks to your doors, as there is a rise in burglaries using anti-snap lock techniques to break your locks to gain entry.
If you have one, setting a house alarm when you go out or when you go to bed is a great way to deter criminals away from your house.
Fitting a Wi-Fi enabled camera like a video doorbell or an indoor camera or having CCTV cameras fitted outside, will not only prevent criminals from attempting to burgle your address, but gives a significantly greater chance at catching criminals with this type of evidence.
Finally, there are lots of products on the market, such as UPVC window latches, patio door locks and window alarms, which will help deter criminals from breaking in.
