City South Priorities - February 2023 to May 2023
Issued 17 January 2023
City South Priorities – February 2023 to May 2023
The City South comprises of the St Ann's, Mapperley, Clifton, Meadows and Sneinton and Dales areas. Whilst, each area is very different a number of overarching strategic priorities have been identified through analysis of crime, consultation with partners, the PCC crime survey and feedback from our community.
These priorities do not replace those local priorities raised at community meetings. The priorities are updated monthly and reviewed quarterly. The City South areas have such different demographics each area has its own issues and problems therefore in order to capture all the elements raised the priorities are deliberately non-specific to ensure they remain relevant to all.
The priorities for this quarter remain the same as the previous quarter namely serious violence, acquisitive crime and drugs. It is important to note that these priorities do not replace any local issues or concerns which we are still committed to tackling.
Serious Violence
The knife crime team has doubled in size, with another team being established and based at Mansfield, which means that we are seeing more of the Knife Crime Team (KCT) in the City South area. However, KCT will also cover other parts of the city including: City North, City West and City Central in addition to our area on the City South. The Knife Crime Team will be supported by Op Reacher who are also a pro-active team, but they are the dedicated unit for the City South. That being said, on occasion they have to support other areas when necessary for operational reasons. There are concerns for all the areas with perhaps the exception of Mapperley who do not suffer with as much violent related offences than the other areas. Nevertheless, we will continue to be tackling serious violence and particularly knife related offences, which will be our focus for our teams.
Drugs
We have executed numerous drug warrants across the area, but despite that drugs continues to be a priority as it is intrinsically linked with many other crimes and taking a strong approach to drugs impacts on other areas. Again, the neighbourhood policing teams have been working together with Op Reacher team to execute drugs warrants and carry out proactive patrols on the City South. The City South will carry on targeting drug offenders in the bid to hopefully send out a message that this kind of activity will not be tolerated. Although, not drugs another form of anti-social behaviour is centred around NET trams mainly towards the weekends where young people are not paying for fairs and behaving in an unsavoury manner. We will continue with our high visibility patrols and working with our partners to take positive action again the perpetrators.
Acquisitive crime
Overall acquisitive crime is a priority due to the detrimental impact it has on its victims. I am sure you agree that the public want to feel safe and secure, so we will continue to positively deal with robbery, thefts, shop thefts motor vehicle related offences and the often 'faceless' crime of burglary. We will therefore carry on identifying these serial offenders, whilst focusing on 'hot spot' areas as early as possible to ensure we maximise opportunities of prosecutions, which ultimately leads to victims getting positive resolutions. There has been an increase in car key burglaries in the Clifton area. In response our dedicated Acquisitive Crime Team has made several arrests and we will continue gathering evidence against the offenders.
