    Mansfield Quarterly Neighbourhood Policing Priorities:

    1) Shoplifting in the Town Centre

    Issued 01 February 2023

    Action taken:

A cohort of five top offenders has been identified. These offenders will be discussed with partner agencies regarding support required and offered as well as targeted via disruption, dispersal and robust prosecution.

Criminal Behaviour Orders will be applied for with requested conditions for their use of Mansfield Town Centre (ranging from being banned from the area entirely, banned for specific time periods, limitations on their usage etc.).

Statements from the BID on behalf of the Town Centre businesses regarding the impact of Shop Theft and Begging are also being completed in order to show the harm these people do to the Town Centre.

Town Centre officers will continue to work closely with partner agencies such as Framework to complete the rough sleeper walks and attend multi-agency meetings to support provisions to those who are homeless in Mansfield.

Town Centre officers will also continue to partake in Op Amberstag - which is a multi-agency full day operation once a month focussing on the most pressing issues in the Town Centre at that time.

    2) ASB in Oak Tree

    Issued 01 February 2023

    Action taken:

Work has been ongoing with Mansfield District Council and the Fire Service with regards to suspected perpetrators of the arson incidents in the area. The majority of those involved are under the age of 18. As such, the Youth Justice Service and Social Services are also involved.

We have bid for and been granted funding for further additional patrols in the area. These patrols are high visibility and based on crime data with regards to hot spot locations and time periods / days of the week. The patrols lead to engagement, dispersal, disruption and intelligence gathering.

Officers are also liaising with Mansfield District Council and third sector partners and businesses to put on events within the area for children to attend to attempt to provide positive activities for the children to do and dissuade them from being involved in anti-social behaviour.

    3) Theft from Motor Vehicle in Mansfield Woodhouse and Forest Town Areas

    Issued 01 February 2023

    Action taken:

What we have seen recently is a rise in theft from motor vehicle offences. In almost all instances, the vehicles have been left unlocked. In order to prevent this, we are asking residents to do the following:

    • Always lock it - Fuelling up or popping back into your house to get something are perfect examples of how easy it is to turn your back for a moment and forget your vehicle is unsecured. So get into the habit of locking your vehicle even if you’re only going to be away from it for a moment.

    • Close windows and the sun roof to prevent ‘fishing’ - Leaving windows and the sunroof open invites fishing for items through the gap by hand or with, say, a bent coat hanger, which could also be used to unlock a door for them to get in. Thieves can be ingenious. Don’t give them the opportunity.

    • Take it with you or hide it - Your mobile phone, coins for the car park, sunglasses, packs of medication or other items that can earn quick cash are irresistible to the opportunist thief. Remember, the cost of replacing a window is often much more than that of what’s stolen. And it should go without saying that wallets, handbags, purses and credit cards should never be left in an unattended vehicle.

    • Hide electrical items and leave no clues - Leaving sat nav mounts, suction cup marks on windows or cables on view gives it away that you have left a Sat Nav, smartphone or other device in your car. Even if they can’t see the Sat Nav or iPad they might still break in to see if it’s stored in the car, out of sight.

    • Tool theft from vans - Vans are often targeted by thieves for the tools stored inside. If you have to leave tools in a van overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name / company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray. Alternatively, you can use a variety of other property marking systems. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.

Theft from Motor Vehicles have recently been made one of the three Mansfield Policing Priorities. Officers have therefore been conducting patrols overnight (both in high visibility and plain clothing) and we have deployed a capture car in the Woodhouse area.
