Hello and welcome to this latest update from your neighbourhood policing team. This is the first of a series of regular updates in this format to inform stakeholders about what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and the impact we are having across our communities.
As well as highlighting some great work by your local officers, we will also use this space to inform you about significant local trends and anything else we think you need to be aware of.
First of all, here is a reminder of our key local policing priorities, which are agreed quarterly after consultation with the public and local partners.
Drug related crime
Shop theft
Road related offences.
Drug offences:
The trade in illegal drugs is a blight on our communities – often fuelling a disproportionate amount of violent and acquisitive crime.
Our approach here is a simple one – to relentlessly target the people supplying and producing these illegal substances in our community.
To this end we are constantly processing local intelligence about cannabis grows and other properties used to store and supply drugs. Once we have generated sufficient evidence, we will then apply for a court warrant to force entry to these addresses.
This is what we did at an address In Eastwood last month where a suspect was detained and a thorough search carried out.
Shop theft:
We’ve been acting on concerns raised by local businesses and councillors in Beeston Town Centre, where a relatively small number of people are committing a disproportionate number of offences.
In response my officers have been increasing foot patrols – keeping a close eye-out for known local offenders and generating vital local intelligence. We’ve also been speaking with local retailers about how they can increase resilience and aid us with the timely release of evidence once offences do occur. In April we detained two of our most prolific offenders and returned one of them to prison.

Road related offences:
As you may have seen in the local media, we have also been working closely with our roads policing unit and road crime team to crack down on dangerous and antisocial drivers taking part in organised car cruises.
Op Wheelspin is now established across the county and is being employed locally along the A52, Toton Park and Ride and Chilwell Retail Park. Drivers behaving in an antisocial way are given warnings – either on the spot or by post. Their vehicles may then be seized if they are spotted behaving in a similar way again.
As several drivers found out to their cost in April, we will immediately seize any vehicles found without insurance. The good news is that this proactive approach appears to be working, with a significant reduction of incidents reported at key local hotspots.
The force’s Off-Road Bike Team was also deployed in April in several areas where concerns about illegal and antisocial riding have been raised. These areas included Narrow Lane, Kew Gardens, Stapleford, Trowell, Horsendale and Broxtowe Country Park. A Sur-Ron motorbike was seized at Toton Tram Stop after it was seen being ridden illegally. Residents can expect to see the Off Road Team on patrol in the area over the Spring and Summer months.

We are aware of an increase in antisocial behaviour in Beeston Town Centre committed by groups of young people. We have reports they are cycling carelessly, behaving aggressively and committing shop theft offences. That is completely unacceptable and those responsible can expect to come face-to-face with one our officers.
To this end we issued a dispersal order over the weekend of 25-27 April to allow us to proactively disperse groups of youngsters with Section 35 notices. Anyone ignoring those instructions can be arrested. As a result of this activity several young people were arrested on suspicion of burglary – inquiries of which are ongoing.
