This site is a beta, which means it's a work in progress and we'll be adding more to it over the next few weeks. Your feedback helps us make things better, so please let us know what you think.
The following information will help you have the best chance of success with your application by telling you what you can expect from each stage when you apply to the role of a call handler. Our call handler recruitment is done in cohorts at varying times of the year based on staffing levels. We do not recruit to individual call handler roles and will draw candidates from the successful pool of people as required.
You will be emailed by our recruitment team with regular updates throughout your application but if you have any questions or concerns, you can email our recruitment team from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm.
The first step is to submit an online application through our vacancy portal.
Once the closing date has passed, each application will be anonymously assessed at shortlisting to ensure the candidate meets the criteria that is listed in the job description.
If successful after shortlisting, each candidate will be invited to our Headquarters to complete assessments including measuring your typing speed, listening skills, memory skills and spelling.
If you pass each of the skills assessments, candidates will be invited for a formal interview.
If you are successful after your interview, you will join a pool of other successful candidates and be updated when a position becomes available.
Welcome to Nottinghamshire Police! Once you receive a start date, you will need to attend a full-time seven-week training course provided by our training school. Following this you will then spend the next six weeks doing live call training with trained tutors. If you successfully complete this, you will then be released as independent to an allocated group where ongoing assessments will continue during your 12-month probation period. Upon completion of your probation, opportunities are available to develop into other roles including a dispatcher.
