Nottinghamshire Police are committed to working in partnership with our staff networks to champion inclusivity across the organisation and challenge barriers to the delivery of our strategy and plans.
The aim of our staff networks is to ensure the force promotes a working environment which includes and values all individuals, recognising and celebrating the positive benefits of diversity and developing a culture whereby people feel able to be their authentic selves at work.
The staff networks are highly valued as a source of support to individuals and as a ‘critical friend’, enabling us to work together to improve individuals’ experiences at work and support their health and wellbeing.
To support internally our veterans, reservists, cadet leaders and spouses of those that have served or serve the Armed Forces of the Crown. We also strive to develop partnerships with the wider defence communities of Nottinghamshire and England.
To further enhance our internal network and support of the wider defence community of Nottinghamshire, and England as a whole. We will continue to promote the veterans’ community within our region and proudly represent Nottinghamshire Police at formal Armed Forces and civil related events.

Muslims making a positive difference to policing. The association has been formed to offer support, advice and guidance to all officers and staff about religious and cultural matters, and we want to improve understanding and awareness of Islam across the force.
Ultimately what we want to do is to foster a really good relationship within our police services, but also within our communities as well so we can promote Islam in the way we believe it should be promoted – which is in a positive light.
We provide advice and guidance for our support network to help individuals within Nottinghamshire Police, should they need to talk. Welfare is something we take seriously and we want our colleagues to feel valued. Cultural matters are of utmost importance to us, and we want to focus our energies on our faith, promoting our support network and providing support to our colleagues.
We are a support network which encourages and enables the Black, Asian and ethnic minority staff to maximise their potential, improving the workforce representation. The BPA embraces all minorities within Nottinghamshire Police.
Our mission is to ensure minority police officers and staff are heard, supported and treated fairly so that they can achieve their full potential. The BPA seeks to improve the working environment of the staff members and officers employed within Nottinghamshire Police by protecting their rights and supporting them with their work-related matters.
Our vision is to support Nottinghamshire Police to deliver its pledge by supporting the recruitment, progression, and retention of police officers and staff and promoting a diverse and inclusive culture. We are working towards developing a workforce that is representative of the communities that we serve and promoting good relations with our local communities.
To provide a support network to provide advice, support, and guidance in terms of strategic direction, policy development to the force, being a critical friend and assist with issues that may impact on the wider community and promote community cohesion.
To be a national voice for Christians in policing. We encourage and support Christians in the police service, and communicate in words and action; the truth, message and hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ to colleagues and the community we serve. We build bridges between the Christian community and the police.
We actively lead on issues relevant to Christians in policing. Nottinghamshire CPA is an active and growing branch of the national charity and we encourage every Christian in the police service to fulfil their potential in Jesus Christ. Our ambition is for colleagues and those we serve to know Jesus Christ personally, and for us as police officers and staff working together with churches in every community to reduce crime and improve quality of life.
Prayer, organisation, justice, truth, peace, love, hope and compassion.
Founded in 1883 by Catherine Gurney, OBE, the Christian Police Association now has branches in the majority of police areas in the United Kingdom, as well as maintaining links with similar groups overseas through the International Christian Police Fellowship, Catherine’s legacy to the police service remains to this day. The CPA which Catherine founded, remains an active voice for Christians in the Police. It is her tradition of practical Christianity that the CPA continually aims to promote.
To concentrate on all wellbeing issues both psychological and physical – at work and at home. Enable will strive to provide a responsive, inclusive and confidential support service to Nottinghamshire Police employees. This will be achieved through working with the organisation and other support networks, in line with the vision, to promote a positive image and develop a better understanding of mental and physical wellbeing issues.
To galvanise equality of opportunity for all staff
Raise awareness of the issues surrounding wellbeing within Nottinghamshire Police
To assist in suggesting, developing and embedding policy within Nottinghamshire Police
To help ensure that current and potential staff do not suffer discrimination for any reason
Provide a support network for new and existing members of staff
We want to ensure that everyone feels happy and valued in the workplace, you spend many hours there, so that’s really important.
We recognise all staff as individuals and offer help in accordance with their individual needs whilst also highlighting (where appropriate) conditions or issues that affect many other people within our organisation.
Enable can provide a safe and confidential ear and a practical helping hand, whether it be personal advice or advice for others you are trying to help.
The GRTPA’s main aim is to unite and support all police officers and staff who are from a GRT background. Intrinsically linked to our main aim is the desire to foster good relationships between the police and GRT communities.
Continue to challenge myths and discrimination and provide education by way of lectures, classes, seminars, training courses and other informative events. We will assist in the development of new and existing policies where necessary and link in with our colleagues from other EU countries.
Sharing good practice with other bodies and organisations whether in this country or overseas is imperative to our network. We promote and carry out research, surveys and investigations and work in partnership with other charities, voluntary bodies and statutory agencies seeking to further the same, or similar objectives.
We act as a conduit for discussion, negotiation and co-operation between UK police services, minority organisations, bodies, groups or communities.
Full membership is open to all serving police officers, community support officers, special constables and all other police staff members; regardless of their rank and ethnicity.
Provide information and support for all those who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as those who do not necessarily come under those letters but identify as part of the community. We are a critical friend to the force and offer opinions on policies and procedures that may affect members of the community or internal members of staff. We also advise the organisation on issues relating to recruitment, retention, training and career progression of all staff.
The LGBTQ+ consults widely with the broader LGBTQ+ community throughout the county including neighbouring forces. We are also a member of the National LGBT Police Network in which we attend the national conference every year, sending officers to network, learn and bring back information and ideas to put forward on how we can improve as a force. Our members act as role models and are developing mentoring skills to further enhance the service we are able to provide to the force and beyond, which we continue to do daily.
We recognise that sexual orientation and gender identity are private. We know that for some coming ‘out’ is a big step and we can support them to feel more confident about it. We are also able to assist with signposting to external resources and charities that can help with this barrier.
This forum is open to all, regardless of gender, and aims to promote health and wellbeing for men. Some of the themes we look at are mental health and suicide, perceptions of masculinity, work/life balance, male specific cancers and illnesses as well as maternity, paternity and adoption leave, physical health and nutrition.
To encourage men to talk openly about any issues relating to them. We are a group set up to aid the conversations and provide a safe space to talk at Nottinghamshire Police, with the aim of creating an inclusive and open culture where men (and women) feel they belong and are supported.
As members of the police force, we all will go through more traumatic experiences in life than the average person, so we want to ensure people know it’s ok to reach out and ask for help – as it is available.
To support and provide guidance to colleagues on the topic of neurodiversity, highlighting its benefits to individuals, the organisation and the public. We will guide line managers and colleagues when interacting, working and supporting people who are neurodiverse. We will provide peer support to those with neurodiversity.
Together, we want to change the narrative on neurodiversity. We want to offer a place of work where neurodiverse people feel comfortable, supported and can unleash their extraordinary talents.
We listen and we learn.
When individuals have neurodivergent colleagues in their team, employees and especially managers, should be educated about what it’s like to think differently, and how to best work together.
We recognise, promote and celebrate all facets of diversity. This will build confidence in neurodiverse employees whose differences are genuinely desired and appreciated. Openly discuss the importance of everyone bringing their whole selves to work and demonstrate how this is true in our organisation, reflecting our PROUD values.

To provide a voice to women of colour.

To increase knowledge and understanding by collaborating with our respective organisations in how to recruit, develop, retain, and progress women of colour in policing to reach their full potential.
To create a movement which inspires, empowers, and develops women of colour in policing locally, regionally and also inspire the next generation of women of colour in policing who are the future of our organisations.

Create a signposting function to assist women and other colleagues to access support
Create an inclusive and diverse network
When women are supported to participate and feel valued, it promotes a sense of belonging, importance, and empowerment. Whether you’re an officer, or a staff member, we come together to support one another.
